Ramakrishna Mission was founded by Swami Vivekananda on 1st May 1897. The authorities of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math have decided that starting from 1st May 2022, a series of activities will be organized at local, regional and national levels to celebrate and commemorate the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the Ramakrishna Mission.

The history of any nation witnesses the birth and growth of innumerable institutions. Of them, those that contribute to the development of the people constituting the nation become synonymous with the nation. The names of those institutions become identical with the name of the nation itself. Thus it is not just a happy coincidence that the 125th anniversary of the foundation of this institution is at a time when the nation itself is celebrating its 75th year of gaining independence!

Swami Vivekananda, with his prophetic vision, spelled out as one of the objectives of this incredible organization, ‘to impart and promote the study of Arts, Sciences, and Industry.’

Innovation, in all its forms, is at the heart of Arts, Sciences, and Industry. Ramakrishna Mission has directly or indirectly had its humble share of contribution in various innovations in its 125 years of existence. For instance, the standard model of the Bio-gas plant was conceived, built and distributed among the rural people by a monk of the Ramakrishna Mission.  (Cf: “It is a matter of great pride for us that Gobar Gas, Petrol Gas and Sewage Gas plants are all the valuable outputs of the Research done by this wing! The registered Patents for these three inventions are still in the name of Ramakrishna Mission Saradapith.”  Reproduced from ‘History of the technical institutes at Belur Math’ by Swami Sarvadevananda, Centenary Souvenir, Ramakrishna Mission Shilpavidyalaya, Belur Math)

Dovetailing with many important schemes that the Government of India has launched recently such as Skill India, Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, etc., Ramakrishna Mission, in its 125th year wishes to reach out to all the young minds in all schools, colleges and universities, all over India and discover any new idea, process or equipment that will make the lives of people better.

Indeed, what better way to celebrate this blessed occasion than to instigate new ideas from young minds!
